Global Changes

I was asked over the summer about all the 'chaos' surrounding us at the moment, and how difficult it can be to cope with, especially those who are natural empaths, and feeling all the associated energies. If you are reading this and are experiencing similar feelings, then know that you are not alone, and there are things you can do to help. One approach is to consciously step back from what is happening and take a long term view of these events. Sometimes, to progress, things have to be 'shaken up' a bit, and for example, as a direct result of our current events, Africa will go on to be a stronger, more stable, and peaceful continent. Our financial institutions are driving global co-operation (as I write eurozozne leaders are meeting with the USA to discuss solutions), and without the economic collapse, such collaboration would never have occured. So yes, it is hard to watch, but these are actually incredible events - we are witnessing the birth of a new set of earthly paradigms - a privilege to observe. The second step you can take is to help ground the energies. This will both help anchor the new energy to help these situations move on, but also will help you physically deal with it. Ways to ground yourself are to be in contact with the earth through walking, gardening, being with nature, or to get on with unfinished tasks and tackle that to do list. All these things will help shift any energy you are holding unecessarily. A good grounding meditation is to imagine roots coming out fo your feet, spreading down into the earth, through the layers of soil, rock, and down into the molten core. Imagine your roots wrapping round the earth's core three times, and feel that connection, allow yourself to release any unwanted energy down into the earth, and feel the safety and security of being anchored and held steady by the ground beneath you.

Meditation

I mentioned last season about getting started on a spirtual journey. A great tool for development is meditation, easy to do with practice. Meditation is a way to change the focus of your attention from life's daily dramas, out to a higher level of awareness. This is different to just simple relaxation that you may get from listening to music or watching a film, where you think you are switching off but haven't actually shifted your thinking.

There are a variety of techinqiues, but all centre on the same premise. Some simple options you can try are:

1. Breath focused. Sit in a warm and comfortable position and allow yourself to relax. Sitting is best, try this lying down and you may just fall asleep! Gently take your awareness to your out breath. Notice how it sounds, how it feels, the rhythmn, the air passing and keep this gentle focus for a number of minutes. You will find that your attention wanders back to the mundane, but just allow this, and let the thoughts come and go. Keep returning your focus to the out breath.
2. Image focused. Pick a simple image, perhaps a shape like a circle, or an object like a tree, and imagine it in your mind. Follow steps as per breathing meditation.
3. Guided meditation. There are many CD's that have ready produced meditaiton tracks thet help you shift your focus. They are often themed but normally involve imagining a journey into a beautiful place in nature and give you a way of shifting focus without having to concentrate yourself on generating something.
Any of these techniques will, with practice (little and often is best) move you closer to the point of shifting focus to a higher level, which brings feelings of deep peace and harmony. Regular meditators have lower levels of stress hormones so there are physical as well as emotional benefits. Once you have experienced that 'wow' moment of universal connection, there will be no going back!

If you want to go further, I highly recommend 'The Quiet' by Paul Wilson as a good DIY meditation book.
